Entropion in Dogs - Know The Signs and The Treatment

Let me tell you first what is Entropion in Dogs?

Entropion in dogs is basically a congenital disorder which means a dog is born with it. This disorder causes the eyelids to roll inward towards the eye. It can effect any of the two eyelids or usually effects both the eyelids.

The abnormal position of the eyelids causes the hair or the eyelashes to rub against the eye itself .So just imagine how it feels to have just one tiny eyelash rubbing against your eye. And this condition of dog can damage the eye permanently.

Some common symptoms that indicates your dog has Entropion:

Your dogs eyelids will appear to roll inward

You might notice winking too

Excessive tearing

Eye will become sensitive to light

Continuous rubbing their eye which results in more damage  

Can Entropion In Dogs Be Treated ?

Luckily conformational Entropion in dogs can be treated. Eye drops or ointment are generally prescribed to protect the eye from rubbing and to relieve pain and discomfort. The ointment which i used for my Rottweiler (SAM).

But if not treated at earlier stage it can become more serious

And at this stage the only way left is Surgical Correction. A section of skinis removed from the affected eyelid to reverse its inward rolling. In many cases a primary surgical correction will be performed and it will be followed by second minor surgery later. Two surgeries are often performed to reduce the risk of over-correcting the entropion resulting in an outward rolling eyelid known as ECTROPION.

Rottweiler's can prove to be excellent companions for life if raised properly with full care and love.

Eyes are one the most vulnerable part of your pooch's body and for someone with unconditional love for you deserves full care.
